Repairing Leather Couch
Fixing Holes or Tears
These are the things you would need to get your leather furniture in shape, apart from the leather couch repair kit -
- Soft clean cloth
- Leather cleaning solution
- Rubbing alcohol
- Cotton ball
- Scissors
- Leather protectant
- Leather sandpaper
Then here is how you can repair the couch.
- First things first. If there is any white fluff or any sort of filling that is jutting out of the area which needs a repair, trim it off. This will make the final look after the repair smooth and even.
- Now take the sand paper from your kit and rough up the area around the tear, or rather the hole. This will help in holding the leather patch more securely which would be placed there.
- Then clean the damaged area of the furniture with rubbing alcohol or leather cleaner and a cotton ball.
- If there is any dirt or grime, the leather protectant will cut through it. This way the patch will be able to adhere well to the sofa.
- Now select a patch to place over the hole, trimming it to fit the hole. Ensure that there is half an inch of patch overlapping that tear.
- Then, glue the patch in place using the leather adhesive and let it dry. Make sure that the patch is completely and properly covered.
- Sand the area lightly to even out glue spots or rough edges.
- If there are gouges, fill them using leather filler and allow it to dry. Then sand the spot again.
- Apply the color which will be available in your kit to the patch, matching the couch. Smooth the color and edges by a light sand after the color dries.
- Finally, take the repair compound from your leather kit and rub it in the patched area. The leather couch restoration will be over once this repair compound dries in a few hours.
